At its regular meeting on Monday, October 7, the Vaudreuil-Dorion municipal council adopted an amendment to its Urban Plan. The purpose of this amendment is to allow medium- and high-density housing, i.e. multi-family dwellings, in the area around the Forbes Street fire station.

For those familiar with the area, the lots concerned, numbers 1 674 100 and 1 674 110, are located on the site of the former Transport Roger Léger company, near Forbes and Boileau streets.

The by-law also integrates the two lots into the PPU de la Gare district under the “High density residential” designation, and adds them to the study area subject to specific parking measures.

During the question period, Mayor Guy Pilon was asked about this modification. What building heights will be permitted on the site? “We're talking about 4 to 8 storeys. Buildings located near existing homes will have to be a maximum of four storeys high, while those built further away will be able to reach a maximum of eight storeys. As far as we know, the land was decontaminated by Mr. Léger several years ago. I imagine that the future buyer of these lots will request proof of this from the current owner. To date, I've seen sketches of what a project might look like, but we don't have any concrete proposals on the table for these lots,” he replied.
