Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been happening in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.   

Vaudreuil-Dorion: Camp Franco-Fun takes top honors once again

On Thursday, October 3, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion's Camp Franco-fun was awarded the OTIUM trophy by the Association québécoise du loisir municipal in the category for municipalities or boroughs with a population of 25,000 to 74,999, at the Prix Excellence ceremony held at Montreal's Hôtel Bonaventure. This recognition follows that received last June at the Gala Nomina, which celebrates excellence and innovation in the field of recreation and sport in Montérégie.

Coulée à Biron: work completed five weeks ahead of schedule

The Municipalité des Cèdres has confirmed the completion of reconstruction work on the culvert at Ruisseau de la Coulée in Biron, under Chemin Saint-Féréol. The project is being completed five weeks ahead of schedule, which is excellent news for road users. 

Saint-Zotique resident fined $1,376

On October 6, at around 12:35 p.m., police officers from the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC station intercepted a speeding vehicle on Highway 530 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The driver was caught travelling at 168 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Open house draws 1,200 visitors to Coteau-du-Lac fire station

On the eve of Fire Prevention Week 2024, fire stations in the Suroît region opened their doors to young and old alike. In Coteau-du-Lac, nearly 1,200 visitors came to see the facilities, fleet of vehicles and equipment used daily by the local fire brigade. 

A talk on future finances in Vaudreuil-Dorion

Vaudreuil-Dorion's three independent councillors, Jasmine Sharma, Karine Lechasseur and Diane Morin, will be holding a citizens' meeting on Wednesday, October 23 at 7pm. The event, which will take place at the Centre Multisports André-Chagnon, will focus on citizens' budget priorities. 

Groupe Sanivac launches VACFORCE

Groupe Sanivac announces the official launch of its new subsidiary VACFORCE, the inauguration of its head office and its first manufacturing garage for vacuum truck equipment in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot.The launch marks a decisive step in the history of this family business, established since 1961. The official ground-breaking ceremony took place on Monday, October 7.

Two Vaudreuil-Soulange residents become millionaires on the same day

Two Montérégie residents, Yvon Desrosiers and Anthony Vincelli, experienced a day rich in positive emotions on Friday August 16. They learned that day that they had become lottery millionaires. 

Hudson residents invited to take part in The Great Evacuation this Wednesday

This Wednesday, October 9, Hudson residents are invited to become a fire prevention superhero by taking part in the Great Evacuation between 6 and 8 pm. This initiative is an opportunity for local families to test their evacuation plans and make sure everyone knows what to do in an emergency. 

Vaudreuil-Dorion bids farewell to Fire Chief Terry Rousseau

Olivier Van Neste, Director General of the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion, has announced the retirement of Terry Rousseau, Director of Fire Safety for the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion. Mr. Rousseau will officially step down this week.

A floral work of art for the Pointe-des-Cascades library

Over the summer, the community of Pointe-des-Cascades came together around a unique artistic project: the creation of a collaborative floral work. Involving over 85 citizens, employees and volunteers of all ages, the project celebrated the municipality's collective spirit and commitment to creativity and cultural development.

Vaudreuil-Dorion says yes to multi-family housing

At its regular meeting on Monday, October 7, the Vaudreuil-Dorion municipal council adopted an amendment to its Urban Plan. The purpose of this amendment is to allow medium- and high-density housing, i.e. multi-family dwellings, in the area around the Forbes Street fire station. 

Last Quality Job Fair to be held in the region in November

On Wednesday November 13, members of the Table de concertation pour l'emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will be welcoming visitors to the Salon Emplois de qualité, to be held at Rigaud's Salle Paul-Brasseur.  

70,000 invested to support Cité-des-Jeunes students in 2023-2024

In 2023-2024, the Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes has invested $70,000 in various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of students in their school environment. This was revealed at the organization's annual general meeting, held in virtual format on Monday, September 30. 

Rigaud: invitation to the auction of works by the Clercs de Saint-Viateur

From October 10 to 18, Rigaud will host an exceptional cultural event at the Maison Charlebois, opened in 1939. An impressive private collection of over 900 works of art by the Clerics of Saint-Viateur will be auctioned online.

The Cégep de Valleyfield Foundation aims to raise $1 million

On Wednesday, October 9, the Fondation du Cégep de Valleyfield launched its second major fundraising campaign. Under the theme Invest in local geniuses, the campaign aims to raise $1 million over the next two years. 

The CCIVS celebrates 30 years of commitment and turns to a new chapter

The Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CCIVS) held its annual general meeting on October 8, marking the start of a new season rich in prospects. This year also marks an important milestone for the CCIVS, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. 

Provincial cross-country championships to be held in Vaudreuil-Soulanges

For the first time in many years, the provincial cross-country championships will be held in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, much to the delight of the Club d'athlétisme de Vaudreuil-Dorion. More than 1,300 athletes from 14 regional authorities, 43 CEGEPs and colleges, 10 universities and federated civilian clubs will take to the starting line on October 26, live from Parc Nature Les Forestiers in Saint-Lazare. 

Le Nichoir receives a grant to respond to pollution spills

Le Nichoir de Hudson, whose mission is to preserve the natural heritage of wild birds for future generations, received a grant of up to $117,000 last month to set up an oil spill response system.

CÉTAM station to be built in Saint-Lazare

The Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CETAM) will be moving its operations from Vaudreuil-Dorion to a brand-new station in Saint-Lazare.

11-hectare woodland preserved in perpetuity in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot

On Friday, October 11, the Ville de Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot (NDIP) and the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) announced the acquisition of four lots in the Pointe-du-Domaine area. In all, 11 hectares of woodland will be preserved for the benefit of the local population.

The CCIVS awards a posthumous Axent to Mathieu Miljours

The Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CCIVS) took advantage of its Annual General Assembly held on October 8 to pay a final tribute to its former General Manager Mathieu Miljours. For the occasion, the father of the deceased, Jean-Pierre Miljours, his brother, Stéphane, and his godson, Jean-Christophe, were present to receive the tribute.

A play module for 18 months to 5 years old installed in parc Henri-Paul Desforges

Starting next spring, Coteau-du-Lac's parc Henri-Paul Desforges will be home to a play module for young children aged 18 months to 5 years, a free-standing play structure and rotating equipment.
