Saint-Zotique resident fined $1,376
On October 6, at around 12:35 p.m., police officers from the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC station intercepted a speeding vehicle on Highway 530 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The driver was caught travelling at 168 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
The driver, a 42-year-old man from Saint-Zotique, received a $1376 infraction ticket with 14 demerit points. His driver's license was suspended for 7 days.
The Sûreté du Québec points out that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
The objective of the 2021-2026 Transportation Network Safety Strategy, “Human life, at the heart of our actions”, is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions on road and recreational tourism networks. Courses of action are implemented in each of the following areas: Partnership, Intervention, Awareness, Technology, Evaluation (PISTE) by the Sûreté du Québec and its partners, to work together towards the common goal of making our roads, trails and bodies of water safer.
