The Regroupement des organismes ESPACE du Québec (ROEQ) is launching new digital violence prevention tools for children aged 3 to 12. A new Youth Zone has been created, bringing together all the prevention tools developed by ROEQ and its members, including brand-new videos that are sure to capture the attention of youngsters.

“ESPACE organizations have been offering a program to prevent violence in children's living environments for over 35 years. This new Zone will enable us to reach even more children through our mission. Although aimed at children, parents and anyone working with young people aged 3 to 12 will also be able to use it to discuss also be able to use it to address these issues and promote prevention. Informing and equipping children early in their childhood helps them to stay safe and know how to react quickly to a potential violent situation,” says Jade Loiselle, Child Abuse Prevention Worker at ESPACE Suroît.

As mentioned at the outset, ROEQ is also launching 5 new videos aimed at children. A video clip for 3 to 7 year-olds tackles the notion of consent and assertiveness, while a video clip and three educational capsules tackle the notions of cybersafety for 8 to 12 year-olds. All these videos and tools are available in French and English.

Children are increasingly present on the Internet, where violence and dangers are increasing at lightning speed. In 2022, according to cyberaide.ca, cases of computer luring for sexual purposes against children had increased by 815% in five years.

“Child safety on the Internet is a major concern for EWTN members. The tactics used to reach, manipulate and lure children on the Internet are numerous, and children are particularly vulnerable if they are not well informed and equipped. In these videos, we talk to them about cybersecurity, cyberbullying, cyberpredators and, above all, how to react when witnessing or being victimized by online violence said ” Karine Savoie, Communications and Visibility Coordinator at ROEQ.

ROEQ and its members invite the entire Quebec population to join the movement by taking two actions:

1. Introduce the Youth Zone and its prevention capsules to the children in your life.
2. Share widely in your network.
