Pierre Séguin, mayor of L'Île-Perrot, accompanied by Andrée Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs, officially launched construction of the new fire station on Thursday.

Located on boulevard Perrot, where the municipal swimming pool has stood for over five decades, the future fire station represents an investment of $8 million. For its part, the Ministère des Affaires municipales will inject $4,524,040 under the Programme d'amélioration et de construction d'infrastructures municipales (PRACIM).

“Our city is living a historic moment, and the Quebec government's support only makes us twice as proud. The new fire station will optimize the fire safety service offered to all citizens, throughout the territory of L'Île-Perrot, for the long term,” declared Pierre Séguin, mayor of L'Île-Perrot.

A modern fire station

The infrastructure, whose modern signature will resemble that of the aquatic complex, will include 3 garage doors, a dining, rest and operations room, as well as a dormitory. Built on two levels, it will have a total surface area of approximately 1,160 square metres.

“It will feature a timber structure and a white roof to avoid heat islands, as well as a green roof: a first in Quebec! The parking lot will be made of permeable paving stones and will include two charging stations for electric vehicles,” added Mr. Séguin.

“For our government, it's important to invest in municipal infrastructure, since it has a direct impact on the quality of living environments in our municipalities and the daily lives of our citizens. Our aim is always to offer better services to the population, and we'll continue to do so. The support of over $4.5 million announced today is part of this commitment. I'm delighted that our government and the Town of L'Île-Perrot are working together to build this new fire station,” said Minister Laforest.

A strategic location

The fire station will be strategically located near Highway 20, the train station, Île Claude, Île Bellevue, the Île-Perrot Nord sector, residences and the high-risk fire hot spot, the commercial core.

First responder services will continue to be provided to the City and the Municipality of Terrasse-Vaudreuil. This is a major gain for the Île-Perrot community:

“The fire station will optimize the fire safety service offered to all our citizens, throughout the territory, in the long term. By the time the facility opens, boulevard Perrot will be two-way: that's part of the equation. Not to mention that the land belongs to the city, which represents another saving,” says Mr. Séguin.

The public will be able to follow the progress of the project via a video of the worksite broadcast in real time on the city's website.
