The Soulanges High School U14 and U18 Pioneers are off to a flying start. The two sports teams scored big wins in their last games, 7-0 and 11-3 respectively.

For the U14s, the shutout was the curtain-raiser to the 2024-2025 season. Lyam Leroux delivered a solid performance, scoring 2 goals and adding two assists. Gabriel Bonnier also had a good game with 2 goals, while rookie Julianna Lemay had 3 assists.

Beyond the statistics, it was a collective performance that the coaches noted. The points discussed before the game were applied, and that's what made the difference, they believe.

Head coach Charles Villemaire was brief in his post-match speech, but summed up the game as follows: “The defenders played a solid game, respecting the workbench plan. That's why they all deserve the title of persevering player tonight. I'd like to highlight the work of Julianna Lemay and Jacob Trottier, who blocked many of our opponents' shots. Offensively, it was Remy Delahaye-Dupuis and Justin Lazonni's relentlessness throughout the game, as well as in shorthanded situations, that made the difference”, say the coaches.

The players will be back in training on Wednesday in preparation for their next game on October 11 against the strong Édouard-Montpetit program.

Eight-goal lead for M18

On Tuesday afternoon, the Centre sportif Soulanges welcomed the M18 players as they kicked off their 2024-2025 season and donned their new jerseys for the first time.

After a slow start, in which the hosts saw their opponents take a 2-0 lead, the Pionniers pulled together to finish with an 11-3 victory. The special units were put to good use, particularly on disadvantages and numerical advantages.

Six different scorers filled the score sheet for the Pionniers. Louis-Philippe Girard contributed 2 goals and three assists. Christophe Lalonde scored three goals and one assist. His efficiency rate in the face-off circle was 92%.

Long-time forward Nathan Dumouchel also found the back of the net three times. The coaches made special mention of the defensive pairing of Angélique Lauzon and Edja Leduc, who finished the game with a +5 differential.

The coaching team of Marc Lauzon, Jean Bakhache and Félix Bourgon summed up the match as follows: ''It wasn't a perfect game, nor was it disciplined enough, but the victory was achieved with great determination and, as usual, teamwork''.

Our U18s play their next game next Thursday at 3pm, when they travel to Montreal to take on École secondaire Père-Marquette.
