From September 20 to 22, some twenty paramedics from the Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CETAM) took part in the Tour paramédic Québec 2024. Every year, the event is an opportunity to stay in shape by pedaling over 300 km, but above all to raise funds for a good cause.

The event is held every autumn to honour the memory of Canadians who have served the paramedic profession and lost their lives or suffered serious injury in the line of duty. In addition, the organization also supports those psychologically affected by the profession, as well as their family members, by offering support to other charitable causes that promote the profession.

“In all, seven paramedics working in the Suroît and Châteauguay regions travelled to Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean to take part in this sporting challenge. Between 180 and 190 paramedics took part, pedaling for one, two or three days over a total distance of 315 km or less. This year, CETAM invested $8,000 in the cause, in addition to the money raised by each participant and paid when registering for the challenge,” says CETAM spokesman Renaud Pilon.

Participants in the first two days of the Tour paramédic Québec 2024 covered around 120 kilometers. The following day, the last day of the adventure, they pedaled the remaining 75 kilometers.

Why did they take part? “Those I asked said they did it to surpass themselves, to take up the challenge, but also for the cause and to raise funds to support the mission of the Tour paramédic Québec 2024,” he concludes.

Since its inception, the event has raised over $300,000. While the 2025 event is already well underway in terms of organization, it's too early to say in which region of Quebec it will be held next fall.
