Since 2011, Canada has celebrated National Seniors Day on October 1. This date was chosen in 1991 by the United Nations. Néomédia took the opportunity to interview Diane Boyer, President of the Club de l'âge d'or de Pincourt (French Club), as the Club celebrated its 55th anniversary on September 20th.
Diane Boyer is also a councillor for district no. 4 in Pincourt. The Club de l'âge d'or de Pincourt has 300 members, and Ms. Boyer describes it as very active. You can join as early as age 50.
As Diane Boyer tells us, “the Club was founded in 1969 by Mrs. Chapman. At that time, there were around sixty members, a number that has never ceased to grow. As of today, 90% of members have already renewed their membership cards,” she points out.
Speaking of the benefits for seniors, the president, who has been involved with the Club for 11 years, is quick to assert: “It creates important bonds of friendship between members who meet up for other outings; we also present them with information capsules on various subjects, including the risks of fraud among seniors, for example. One of our primary aims is to help seniors break out of their isolation,” she concludes.
What other objectives does the Golden Age Club pursue? “I think the primary goal is to bring seniors together, entertain them and arouse their curiosity through various activities,” adds the president.
To celebrate its 55th anniversary in style, the Club organized a memorable evening at the Omnicentre in Pincourt on September 20. Peter Schiefke, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, attended the event, and the Member of the National Assembly for Vaudreuil was a partner. The mayors of Pincourt, Claude Comeau, and Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Michel Bourdeau, also took part.
The program included a performance by singer Julie Massicotte, singing Ginette Reno, an activity entitled “Merci de partager une tranche de vie” (“Thank you for sharing a slice of life”) that brought back many emotions, and period photos and slides that brought back memories. A photo booth was also set up, allowing visitors to relive the event on camera.
The Club de l'âge d'or de Pincourt organizes a number of weekly or monthly events, such as mechoui, bingo, card games, raffles, bowling, various courses and outings, etc.
Information is available from President Diane Boyer, on her Facebook page, or via the Town of Pincourt's Recreation, Sports and Culture section.
