More than 4,000 students from 17 schools of the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs gathered on Friday, September 27, to launch the 28th edition of the Journées de la Culture by performing the play “Plus je sais, mieux je suis”, written by Alfa Rococo as part of “Une chanson à l'école”.

This is the second year in a row that the Culture pour tous and Journées de la culture teams have visited Vaudreuil-Dorion for such an event.

“Normally, we don't go to the same place two years in a row. We get requests from all over Quebec, and we try to cover as many regions as possible. But when we got the call that 4,000 children would be getting together to sing, we couldn't refuse,” confided Culture pour tous CEO Michel Vallée.

With 4,000 little singers, the Vaudreuil-Dorion gathering was intended to be the biggest in Quebec.

“Last year, we held the event at Maison Valois Park. There were about 10 times fewer people. Thanks to all the volunteers and teachers who organized it. This will stay in your minds and hearts for a lifetime. Culture is very important in Vaudreuil-Dorion. It's in our DNA,” said Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon, addressing the choristers and musicians.

In addition to performing the piece in front of a number of dignitaries, as well as their parents, the young singers had the immense privilege of singing with the piece's composers, Justine Laberge and David Bussières of the Alfa Rococo duo, as well as five musicians from the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
