Heavy rush-hour traffic
Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste Est: Rigaud calls for citizen participation
Anyone who lives or travels in Rigaud on a daily basis knows how chaotic the situation can be in the village and on the streets around Saint-Jean-Baptiste Est during rush hour. Ville de Rigaud is asking for citizens' cooperation in finding solutions to this recurring problem.
The problem is most visible and present when students leave classes at Collège Bourget and Collège des Douanes, but also on weekends and in winter when the ski season gets underway. Dangerous situations are multiplying, with a lack of courtesy on the part of motorists and traffic as far as the eye can see. Motorists wishing to exit a business located on this main artery are unable to get into or out of traffic, or even to cross the street on foot.
What are the solutions? Multiple pedestrian crossings? Rapidly flashing traffic lights? Where? Stops? At which intersections? Parking bans? Where? Corridors for the safe movement of cyclists and pedestrians? Where? asks the municipal administration.
Citizen participation requested
The Ville de Rigaud is calling on citizens who would like to suggest improvements to rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste Est? It's time to share your ideas, because the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec has asked the city to propose a complete development plan for the street, and the city wants to take these proposals into account to ensure that the improvements meet the needs on the ground.
Citizens, shopkeepers and members of partner organizations can have their say on the subject at four (4) 2-hour meetings scheduled for October (week of October 21), November, January and February, in the company of Rues Principales, the organization accompanying the City in this process.
To take part, interested parties must send an e-mail to [email protected] before Monday, September 30, outlining their background and briefly explaining what is particularly important to them as users.
