Since the confirmation of the tragic death of the former General Manager of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCVIS), Mathieu Miljours, testimonials from the business community have been unanimous: he was a true ambassador for Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

Less than a month after stepping down as General Manager of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mathieu Miljours tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident around midnight on Thursday, September 12. The accident occurred on Chemin du Fleuve in Les Cèdres, according to information confirmed by the Sûreté du Québec.

A very involved figure in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, his sudden and unexpected departure will undoubtedly leave a great void in the community.

Before resigning from his position at the CCIVS, Mr. Miljours, a lawyer by profession, had been working there since November 16, 2020. He had been a member of the organization's Board of Directors since 2010, serving as President for four years. Through this long-standing involvement, Mr. Miljours was able to familiarize himself not only with the inner workings of the CCIVS, but also with issues of importance to the Vaudreuil-Soulanges business community.

Shock waves in the business community

News of his death sent shockwaves through many Vaudreuil-Soulanges organizations, including DEV. ”It's a tragic loss. Mathieu was a man who was very involved in the region and believed in its potential and development. He was a loyal ambassador for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, as well as a loving father. Whenever I met him, he always spoke of his children with sparkling eyes. It's a great loss for the community. I would like to extend my sympathies to his loved ones and to all those who knew him from near and far,” says Joanne Brunet, General Manager.

At a press conference at the National Assembly, Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols offered her sincere condolences to Mr. Miljours' loved ones. The entire Néomédia team joins her in offering its sympathies to all those who knew this important player in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region.

For its part, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion states that Mayor Guy Pilon, President of DEV Vaudreuil-Soulanges, “is shocked and deeply saddened. He offers his most sincere condolences to his family and friends.“

Patrick Bousez, prefect of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC, who knew Mr. Miljours well, echoed this sentiment. “Like everyone else, I was stunned and at a loss for words. I'm touched and very sad. We've lost someone who was much appreciated in the region. I knew him for a long time through his role at the CCIVS. I want to salute his involvement, his commitment and all the work he accomplished for the business community and for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region. He was one of our great ambassadors.”

The politician continued. “He knew how to take the CCIVS to another level. It's very sad, especially because he was in the prime of his life. I'm very sad for his two children, who will have had the chance to know him, but not the opportunity to enjoy him for long. He did a remarkable job and put the region on the map. My condolences go out first to his children, then to his family, all his loved ones and his many colleagues and friends.”

Finally, Pierjean Savard, who has also long been involved with the CCIVS, had nothing but good things to say about Mathieu Miljours, who quickly became a friend.

“I got to know Mathieu in 2015-2016 when I was involved with the CCIVS.He quickly became my friend, then my lawyer. We did so many great things together during our respective mandates at the CCIVS.I'm thinking, among other things, of setting up the vaccination clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. My thoughts are with his children and family. I am deeply saddened and distressed by this sudden and unforeseeable departure. He was passionate about the region and a true ambassador who never hesitated to travel to Ottawa and Quebec City to speak about it.He was my friend first and foremost,” he concludes.
