Accused of having had an extramarital relationship with a minor for several years, Yan Lecompte was back in court this Wednesday, September 4, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

At the request of the defense, the case was postponed until October 30 to allow the lawyers to review the official report on the analysis of the data found in the accused's cell phone.

“We had a verbal preliminary report. I spoke with the investigator who told me that she should receive the official written report today or in the next few days. So we're asking you to postpone to allow us to continue our discussions and reflections on this report,” pleaded attorney Kim Emond, a request that was approved by Judge Marie-Chantal Doucet and defence lawyer Alexandre Dubé.

Dubé believes that analysis of the report could lead to a settlement. In the absence of a settlement, Mr. Dubé said he was open to holding a preliminary inquiry. This should be scheduled for October 30.

Lecompte is facing charges of sexual assault, fondling, incitement to sexual touching of the victim and his person, sexual exploitation, production and possession of child pornography, transmission of sexually explicit material, luring and exhibitionism.

According to the evidence presented to the Tribunal, the victim was only 12 years old when the abuse began. Her identity is protected by a publication ban. She would have been under the yoke of the accused for 10 years. The full-scale assaults are said to have begun in 2015.

Prior to his arrest, the man was involved with well-established sports organizations in the Suroît region.
