Liberal leadership: Lucie Charlebois supports Charles Milliard
Former Soulanges Liberal MNA Lucie Charlebois will act as co-chair of Charles Millard's campaign for the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the former president of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec.
In a press release, Charles Milliard described Lucie Charlebois as a respected figure in the Quebec Liberal Party. The former MNA served in Soulanges from 2003 to 2018, in addition to holding the position of Minister for Rehabilitation, Youth Protection, Public Health and Healthy Living.
“I was won over by Charles' approach. He has the profile we need to relaunch our party. Young, dynamic and deeply rooted in our regions, he has a clear vision: to put the economy back at the heart of the Liberal discourse, while taking care of our world. This is exactly what we need to move forward,” said the former MNA.
Lucie Charlebois will co-chair with former Minister for Maritime Affairs Jean D'Amour.
At present, Charles Milliard is the only candidate, along with former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre, to have confirmed his candidacy for the Liberal Party leadership.
Other candidates, including Pablo Rodriguez, Antoine Tardif and Frédéric Beauchemin, are still in doubt.
The QLP leadership campaign is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with the next leader to be chosen in the summer.
