Arms importation and trafficking: Stacy St-Pierre and Ruby Sharma back in court
Arrested last March in connection with the illegal importation of phantom firearms, Pointe-des-Cascades residents Stacy St-Pierre and Ruby Sharma were back in court this Monday at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse.
According to the investigation conducted by officers of the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team, the two individuals illegally smuggled six semi-automatic handguns across the land border, via the municipality of Lacolle.
The handguns in question, privately manufactured Glock Polymer 80s without serial numbers, are prohibited in Canada. The duo were arrested in July 2023, then released without charge pending investigation.
At the time of their arrest, the couple managed the Precious Cargo Daycare centers in Saint-Lazare and Vaudreuil-Dorion. Since then, Ruby Sharma's mother, Elizabeth Sharma, has reportedly taken over management of the daycares.
The couple will be back before the judge on September 16 to set a date for the preliminary inquiry.
