Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been happening in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days. 

A surplus of over $2 million for Les Coteaux in 2023

The Municipalité des Coteaux recently presented its financial report for the year 2023. It shows a free accumulated surplus of $2,463,497 at December 31. 

A successful second edition for Festi-Ouest

The Festi Ouest de Saint-Lazare organizing team gave a positive review of its second edition, held on August 23, 24 and 25. While official attendance figures should be available in the next few days, organizers estimate that the crowd at the Saturday evening show was larger than last year. 

A 90-day prison sentence imposed on a Vaudreuil-Soulanges citizen

A former employee of a Vaudreuil-Dorion car dealership, Alex De Sève, will have to serve a 90-day intermittent prison sentence starting Sunday, September 1, after pleading guilty to assault and breach of probation. This sentence is accompanied by two years' probation. 

Health agencies: CISSSMO welcomes extension of deadline

The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest (CISSSMO) welcomes the decision to postpone the ban on the use of independent labour agencies in the healthcare sector until March 2025.

Drinking and driving: an unusual sentence for a repeat offender

On Monday August 26, Quebec Court Judge Bertrand St-Arnaud handed down an unusual prison sentence, condemning Nathalie Hince, a woman from Vaudreuil-Soulanges, to serve her sentence at home for a third repeat offence of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Over 350 athletes, volunteers and spectators gathered at Westwood Park in Saint-Lazare on Sunday August 25 for the 9th edition of the Bryan Liew Run. The Bryan Liew Foundation raised $10,200 for the advancement of the Soulanges outdoor synthetic athletics track project.

Liberal leadership: Lucie Charlebois supports Charles Milliard

Former Soulanges Liberal MNA Lucie Charlebois will act as co-chair of Charles Millard's campaign for the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the former president of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec. 

Former Cedars citizen sentenced to 12 months' house arrest

On Thursday, August 22, former Cedars resident Clairmont Ouellet received a 12-month prison sentence to be served at his home in New Brunswick, in connection with three charges of assault, criminal harassment and voyeurism for which he pleaded guilty. 

Back to school: some fifty positions to be filled at the CSSTL

This back-to-school week, some 50 positions are still open at the Trois-Lacs School Service Center. This latest information is contained in the Tableau de bord de l'éducation, dated Monday August 26. 

Participatory budget: citizens invited to submit their projects in Vaudreuil-Dorion

In 2024, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion continues to promote a culture of public participation, as stipulated in aspiration 5 of the 2020-2025 strategic plan Habité par ma ville. It is therefore pleased to invite citizens to submit a project for the fourth edition of its participatory budget, between now and September 30.

Vaudreuil-Dorion resident pleads guilty to three charges

On Wednesday August 28, a Vaudreuil-Dorion man received a suspended sentence with two years' probation, after being found guilty of threatening death or causing bodily harm, criminal harassment and breach of conditions against one and the same victim, his former spouse. 

Murder and forcible confinement: Joanie Lepage to return to court next week

Cedars resident Joanie Lepage, 32, who faces charges of premeditated murder of Kevin Mirshahi and kidnapping and confinement of four people, was back in court on Wednesday, August 28. 

Pointe-des-Cascades suspends construction project

Faced with the protests of residents and the fact that the project has been found to be non-compliant, the Municipality of Pointe-des-Cascades announced on Monday that it was suspending the construction project at 18, boulevard Soulanges.

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: complete closure from September 6 to 9

The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable wishes to inform road users that the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, linking Senneville and Vaudreuil-Dorion on Highway 40 (Félix-Leclerc), will be completely closed to traffic over the weekend of September 6 to 9.

Rivière-Beaudette becomes « Municipalité amie des aînés »

Marilyne Picard, MNA for Soulanges, announced this Thursday, on behalf of Sonia Bélanger, Minister responsible for Seniors and Minister Delegate for Health, that the municipality of Rivière-Beaudette has been recognized as a Municipalité amie des aînés (MADA).

Private daycare center flooded on August 9 seeks new premises for its 160 users

Following the floods on Friday, August 9, 160 parents of children attending the Centres éducatifs à ciel ouvert in Vaudreuil-Dorion are left with their beaks in the water, having to come up with a plan B to look after their little ones. The private daycare was heavily damaged, and parents have not been told when it will reopen. 

Several worksites in the region's schools this summer

While for many, the summer season is synonymous with vacations, for the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs, the season is synonymous with work. As in previous years, the CSSTL took advantage of the warmer weather to carry out a variety of work on its facilities. 

More than $68,000 raised during the 12th Défi Vélo event

The 12th edition of the Défi Vélo presented by Desjardins took place on Friday, August 23. A not-to-be-missed charity event for cyclists in the Montérégie-Ouest region, organized in aid of the Fondation de l'Hôpital du Suroît. Vaudreuil-Soulanges citizen and entrepreneur Geneviève Jeanson, a well-known cycling Olympian, was the event's ambassador. 

Noir et Or Football season kicks off

Cégep de Valleyfield's Noir et Or football team will officially kick off its home season on September 21. In this inaugural game presented by Desjardins, starting at 1 p.m., the student-athletes will take on the Islanders of John-Abbott College.
