Foods contaminated with Cronobacter may not have visible spoilage or a suspect odor, but they can still make you sick. This bacterium is not commonly linked to human illness, but in rare cases it can cause serious or even fatal infections. The Cronobacter bacterium, which can cause rare bloodstream and central nervous system infections, has been associated with severe intestinal infection (necrotizing enterocolitis) and blood poisoning (septicemia), especially in newborns.
