A 35-year-old man was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, after attempting to flee police in a vehicle without license plates in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area.

The hit-and-run driver is believed to have taken Highway 30 as well as Route 338, on which a carpet of nails was deployed. The man subject to an international driving prohibition warrant then abandoned his vehicle on the Monseigneur-Langlois bridge in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, and fled on foot into a wooded area.

The suspect was quickly subdued and arrested for dangerous driving, impaired driving, flight, obstructing police officers, presenting false documents and breach of condition, according to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Valérie Beauchamp.

The man remains in custody pending his court appearance.
