Coteau-du-Lac residents will be called to the polls on October 27 to elect a new municipal councillor following the departure of François Vallières. This is the second departure from the council table in less than a year.

In September 2023, David-Lee Amos, then councillor for district 3, also announced his resignation, citing family reasons.

François Vallières stepped down for environmental reasons. In his speech announcing his departure at the June 11 meeting, Mr. Vallières stated that he was driven by deep environmental convictions, and that these did not mesh with the will of Coteau-du-Lac's elected officials.

Earlier in the evening, before tendering his resignation, Mr. Vallières had vehemently opposed a major real estate project that could see the light of day on the site of the former Camping Koa, on land located between Highway 20, the entrance to the Soulanges Canal and Route 201.

Citizens wishing to run for the position of municipal councillor in district 2 will be able to submit their candidacy in the coming weeks. Details will be announced shortly.
