Repairs to the storm drainage system on 23rd Avenue in Saint-Zotique will end up costing the Town more than expected. This was confirmed at the regular meeting held on Tuesday, July 9, when elected officials ratified a borrowing by-law for $3,272,000

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 18, the municipal council of the Ville de Saint-Zotique ratified the awarding of a contract to Transport J.R. Cyr et Fils inc. for the rehabilitation of the 23rd Avenue storm sewer system. The work, scheduled to be completed by the end of the current year, was expected to cost the locality $2,869,849.58 including taxes, according to information provided by the municipal administration last June.

However, at this Tuesday's meeting, the elected officials agreed to increase the borrowing by-law that will finance the project to $3,272,000, taxes included.

What is the problem that prompted the city to issue a call for tenders for this project? "It was the solution chosen to solve the problem of water accumulating in the land near the new high school. Before, when the school wasn't there, the land where it's located absorbed all this water, but that's no longer the case since the school was built. It used to collect on 23rd Avenue. In concrete terms, the work will allow more water to be drained into the stormwater system on this street, which should solve the problem," Mayor Yvon Chiasson told Néomédia at the end of the meeting.According to information shared by the council, the work could take place before the construction vacations, or just after if that's not possible beforehand.

Work will be carried out on the east side of the street. It is not impossible that the closure of a lane of traffic on 23rd Avenue will be necessary to allow the work to take place, it has been indicated. More details should be communicated to residents as the work nears completion.
