More than a year after the April 2023 ice storm that caused major damage to the basement of Saint-Zotique Town Hall, the municipal council on Tuesday, July 9 awarded the contract to renovate the building to Les Constructions GMP inc. for a maximum of $500,000, taxes included.

"During the ice storm of April 5 and 6, 2023, the basement of the Town Hall was severely damaged by water infiltration. The contract is for $456,164, but there is a 10% contingency in case of unforeseen circumstances during the work. We don't know what the interior will reveal, since we can't see it at the moment. It's time for the work to start, as the staff has been cramped on the second floor of City Hall for several months now," said Mayor Yvon Chiasson at the public meeting.

According to the mayor, work should start shortly and be spread over a period of at least six months.
