Reduce power outages
Hydro-Québec steps up network maintenance in Saint-Lazare
In collaboration with Ville de Saint-Lazare, Hydro-Québec has drawn up a rigorous action plan to reduce the number and duration of power outages. This includes not only targeted vegetation control near the distribution and transmission network, but also repairs to priority equipment and modifications to the power system configuration.
In the spring of 2024, Hydro-Québec received a number of complaints about the frequency and duration of power outages, mainly caused by unfavorable weather conditions affecting vegetation near the power grid.
To significantly improve service quality, Hydro-Québec will be clearing incompatible trees near the power grid on a more selective basis this year. Pruning will also be carried out in certain areas.
To carry out tree-felling and brush-clearing work, it is essential that the owners of the trees to be felled give their authorization to Hydro-Québec crews. No tree may be felled without the owner's authorization.
Encouraging the planting of compatible species
While this work is ongoing, further outages could occur due to weather-related events.
The probability of outages increases when mature trees overhang distribution lines, as is the case at Saint-Lazare.To prevent such outages, we encourage you to plant species that are compatible with the network and conducive to maintaining biodiversity. A complete list of compatible trees is available at trees.hydroquebec.com.
