PRS employee charged with crimes of a sexual nature
On May 23, Jean Berny Romain, an employee of a seniors' residence in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, was arrested at his workplace in connection with charges of a sexual nature. On Thursday June 20, the forty-year-old's case was back in court before Judge Bertrand St-Arnaud.
The accused recently changed lawyers and will now be represented by Me. Sonia Bilodeau. The Crown is represented by Me. Jérémie Brault.
The case is subject to a publication order which prevents us from revealing the identity of the alleged minor victim. We can, however, mention that the acts with which the accused is charged took place between February 1 and May 20 of the same year, at the accused's place of work.
Jean Berny Romain faces a host of charges, including threats to cause death or injury, intentionally attempting to obstruct, divert or thwart the course of justice, production of child pornography and transmission of child pornography.
He is also accused of having taken advantage of his position to touch a part of an adolescent girl's body for sexual purposes, of having invited, engaged or incited an adolescent girl to touch him, of having sexually assaulted his alleged victim, of having inflicted injuries during a sexual assault, strangulation, use of a weapon during a sexual assault, making sexually explicit material available to a person under 18, and communicating by telecommunication with his victim for the purpose of facilitating the commission of an offence against him.
According to information obtained by Néomédia, the accused was recently acquitted in another case.
Jean Berny Romain will be back in court on July 8 for the orientation and statement stage.
