Work scheduled for this summer
More than $2 million to repair the stormwater system on 23rd Avenue in Saint-Zotique
At its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 18, the municipal council of the Ville de Saint-Zotique ratified the awarding of a contract to Transport J.R. Cyr et Fils inc. for the rehabilitation of the storm drainage system on 23rd Avenue. The work, scheduled to be completed by the end of the current year, will cost the locality $2,869,849.58, taxes included.
A total of seven bidders responded to the Ville de Saint-Zotique's call for tenders.
What problems prompted the Town to issue a call for tenders for this project? « It's the solution chosen to resolve the problem of water accumulating in the land near the new high school. Before, when the school wasn't there, the land where it's located absorbed all this water, but that's no longer the case since the school was built. It used to collect on 23rd Avenue. In concrete terms, the work will allow more water to be drained into the stormwater system on this street, which should solve the problem», Mayor Yvon Chiasson told Néomédia at the end of the meeting.
According to information shared by the council with a citizen who asked a question on the subject, the work could take place before the construction vacations, or just after them if this is not possible beforehand.
The work will be carried out on the east side of the street. It is not impossible that the closure of a lane of traffic on 23rd Avenue will be necessary to allow the work to take place, it has been indicated. More details should be communicated to residents as the work nears completion.
