The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable informs road users that shoring work will be carried out in the coming months under the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, on the east side, near the municipality of Senneville. Shoring consists of installing a steel structure under a portion of the bridge to provide additional support.

This operation, which could be in effect until winter 2025, will provide increased security for the structure and will limit the risk of additional traffic lane closures until the new bridge comes into service. The shoring will remain in place until the current bridge is deconstructed. The interventions essentially consist of setting up two jetties (work areas built at the edge of the bank and on the water) allowing workers to install piles. A steel structure will rest on these piles and everything will support the bridge beams.

Environmental mitigation measures

Several mitigation measures have been put in place to limit the impact of this work on the habit at of various species, including:

- the installation of curtains forming air bubbles and a turbidity curtain for the different species of fish in this sector;

- the development of a nesting site and monitoring of the lake shores for the protection of the map turtle.

Continuation of work

In the meantime, work to strengthen the beams in the center of the bridge continues. The progress of these interventions made it possible to put back in place the dynamic management of traffic on the structure on May 27. In a press release, the ministry reiterates its intention to add traffic lanes to the current bridge by the end of fall 2024.  Finally, let us remember that due to the reduced number of routes, several mitigation measures are in place, particularly with regard to public transportation.
