Vaudreuil-Dorion: independent councillors want to talk about mobility
As part of their series of community talks, Vaudreuil-Dorion's independent councillors, Jasmine Sharma, Karine Lechasseur and Diane Morin, will be inviting citizens to discuss the issue of mobility with a talk on the theme: The mobility ecosystem - active transportation, public transit and automobile traffic. The event will be held at the Jean-Marc-Ducharme Community Centre on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m.
The three councilors will explore the idea of an integrated ecosystem that promotes sustainability, accessibility and efficiency. In their view, the issue of mobility must be considered as a whole.
"Traffic congestion is an enormous source of stress for the community. However, it's an illusion to think that everyone lives the same reality when it comes to transportation. Some people can get around by bike, others choose public transit, and some need to use a vehicle for work or family reasons. I hope that our talk will enable us to think about solutions to relieve traffic congestion on our streets, with great respect for our environment, but also for the needs of our population", says Jasmine Sharma.
The panel will include Isabelle Joncas, mobility project manager for Équiterre, and Katia Lesiak, project coordinator for Piétons Québec. Ms. Joncas and Ms. Lesiak will share their findings and ideas with participants.
The panel will address the intersection between active transportation, public transit and automobile traffic. The panelists will of course be available to answer questions from the citizens present, and to take part in this collective discussion.
"Although we don't have all the powers to coordinate public transit services, among other things, municipalities can play a crucial role in land-use planning and in communicating sustainable mobility resources to citizens. During this talk, we hope to take the pulse of our community on the actions that need to be taken, in order to pass on to the relevant authorities the thoughts shared in our community," added Karine Lechasseur.
"Citizen forums are privileged moments of exchange, but also of learning thanks to the presence of experts. Our summer talk will enable us to work on identifying best practices in mobility and to think about concrete solutions that we could propose to the council. I hope the citizens of Vaudreuil-Dorion will take part in this evening, which will certainly be rich in ideas and solutions to improve our mobility and, by the same token, our quality of life", concludes Diane Morin.
