Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols is delighted with the announcement that dynamic traffic management will be in place on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge as of May 27.

“Finally! That's the first word that comes to mind when I hear this news,” exclaims the MP. Everyone in the region has been calling for the return of dynamic traffic management. We had to do something about the congestion that is having a major impact on the daily lives of our population, as well as on our economic development,” she points out.

Dynamic lane management will only be in place on weekdays, as there will be two westbound lanes at all times on weekends. The bridge will have to be completely closed over the weekend of May 24 to 27 to make the necessary changes. For the MNA, these mitigation measures were more than necessary.

Marie-Claude Nichols hopes that this announcement is a first step towards the implementation of other mitigation measures that could have a significant impact on the mobility of Vaudreuil-Soulanges residents.

“There are solutions, and I proposed several to the Minister. Despite her answers, which were disconnected from the reality of our region, I'm satisfied that her team has put itself in solutions mode to reinstate dynamic lane management, which will improve the situation for motorists who can spend up to 1 h 30 to travel 7 km,” adds Ms. Nichols.

Among the measures proposed to the Minister are free travel at all times on Autoroute 30, the synchronization of traffic lights on Harwood Boulevard and the Autoroute 20 bypass. The MNA promises to continue her lobbying efforts in Quebec City, as well as her collaboration with local players, to ensure that other measures are introduced quickly.

On Tuesday, Vaudreuil-Dorion mayor Guy Pilon also commented on the news. “The ministry has been talking about this for a while. I'm certainly very happy that it's now official. It's going to give us a good boost in the morning, but unfortunately, for the weekend, it won't change much. Nevertheless, it's a very good first piece of news, and I'm sure we'll have more soon,” he told Néomédia.

For his part, Mathieu Miljours, General Manager of the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CCIVS), was also delighted with the announcement.“It's definitely good news in itself. It will certainly ease traffic and congestion on the territory.Nonetheless, I think it's a shame that the mitigation measures put in place have come to an end,” he confided to Néomédia.

As for the permanent reopening of the four traffic lanes, motorists can look forward to an announcement to that effect next autumn.
