While he welcomes the return of dynamic traffic management on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, Mathieu Miljours, General Manager of the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CCIVS), feels that the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD) could have maintained the mitigation measures.

“It's certainly good news in itself. It will certainly ease traffic and congestion on the territory. Nonetheless, I think it's a shame that the mitigation measures have been discontinued,” Mr. Miljours told Neomedia.

On Monday, MTMD announced that dynamic traffic management would be reinstated on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge as of May 27. As a result, tolls on Autoroute 30 eastbound during rush hour will be reinstated.

Free travel on the Vaudreuil/Hudson commuter train will also be cancelled. Instead, a 25% discount will be offered on the cost of a 10-ride Tous Mode ABC pass. As a result, the regular fare will drop from $57 to $42.50, and the reduced fare from $38 to $28.50.

“Dynamic traffic management won't bring back the six lanes on the bridge. Of course, with summer coming up, the network is likely to be less stressed, so we'll see some improvement. That said, I can't wait to see how things go in the autumn, when school starts again and the vacations are over.I'm also wondering what the plans are for winter. Remember last winter when we were told it was impossible to implement dynamic traffic management because of the snow?I can't wait to see their answer,” concludes the General Manager.
