The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable wishes to inform the public that progress on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will enable dynamic traffic management to be reinstated on Monday, May 27.

At the same time, a new lane configuration on Highway 40 will be put in place to allow construction work on the new bridge to continue. In addition, the bridge will have to be completely closed over the weekend of May 24 to 27 in order to carry out these major changes.

Traffic management as of May 27

- Return of dynamic traffic management, which will make two of the three lanes available in the direction of traffic flow during peak periods.

- New configuration of bridge approaches, with two lanes per direction on Highway 40:

- Between boulevard des Anciens-Combattants and the bridge;

- Between Exit 35 (Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac/Vaudreuil-Dorion/Avenue Saint-Charles) and the bridge.

- In the direction of Montreal, the right lane of Autoroute 40 will be reserved exclusively for Exit 35.

Update on mitigation measures

Until other routes are opened, the improved train service will continue, as will the more than 300 parking spaces temporarily added near the bus terminus and Vaudreuil train station.

Some train and bus services will remain free of charge for the week of May 27.As of June 3, however, public transit users will need a public transit ticket to use these same services. On the other hand, they will benefit from a 25% discount on the cost of a 10-passenger ticket, Tous modes ABC.

Tolls on Autoroute 30, currently suspended eastbound in the morning, will be reinstated as soon as a second lane in the direction of rush-hour traffic reopens on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, scheduled for Monday, May 27.

Highlights

Over the coming months, two lanes per direction will be available at all times on Highway 40 on the approaches to the bridge. On the bridge, two of the three open lanes will be available:

- towards Montreal, from midnight to 10 a.m. weekdays;
- towards Vaudreuil-Dorion, from midday to 10 p.m. weekdays, and every weekend.

These changes will be implemented thanks to the progress of work on the existing bridge, which will reduce the space required for reinforcement work on the girders, and in order to develop the area near the future bridge on the Vaudreuil-Dorion side, which requires the construction of the slabs and shoulder planned for use by buses (UAB).

The Ministry continues to make every effort to add lanes on the existing bridge and to open the new bridge to traffic, according to the following schedules:

By late fall 2024: reopening of lanes on the existing bridge;

- End of 2026: commissioning of a first structure (five lanes available with - dynamic management in the direction of peak-hour traffic);
End of 2027: opening of the second structure (six lanes open, with three lanes on each of the two structures).

In addition, Highway 40, including the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, will have to be completely closed for a few weekends between now and the end of summer.
