Annick Gauvreau, a multidisciplinary artist from Coteau-du-Lac, will be taking part in an exhibition with art students from the Cité-des-Jeunes starting April 11 at the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. The vernissage for the exhibition Mettre les mains à la pâte with Annick Gauvreau and Cité-des-Jeunes students will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. that day, in the Museum's multi-purpose room. Admission is free.

Last week, Ms. Gauvreau met with the students of Nancy Lépine's group to introduce them to a period of Quebec art history, that of global refusal. The group, supervised by Annick, practiced abstract art in the manner of the automatist painters.

The creations presented will nod to Annick Gauvreau's artistic approach, to the spontaneous, unpreconceived painting of the Automatistes, and to the history of our region.

The students used bannetons from the former Leroux bakery in Les Cèdres, which operated from 1888 to 2001. These baskets were used for the final push of dough into loaves of bread. They are made of wicker and were covered with linen cloth that was discarded because it was too worn. They serve as frames for abstract works.

The birchwood ones were designed by a wood craftsman, Pierre Tassé, a late friend of local artist André Leroux. He lived near a field hockey stick factory and made them from the wood of hockey sticks. Flour has left its mark, reminding students that behind every reanimated object lies a story.

Please note that the Museum's multi-purpose room, where this exhibition is presented, is not accessible at all times. It may be used for meetings or other events. Please call before visiting.

The Arts plastiques Études program at Cité-des-Jeunes offers solid training in the arts, enabling students to grow harmoniously and artistically, developing their sense of pride and belonging as well as their creativity.
