Luciano Minisini Burke, 18, accused of causing a fire at the Vaudreuil-Dorion Walmart on Tuesday, February 20, was back in court on Tuesday, February 27. Following a psychological evaluation at the Institut de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel, the young man was deemed fit to stand trial.

His case will return to court this Friday, March 1, for the orientation and declaration stage of the proceedings. It should be noted that all the evidence gathered against the accused was handed over to the defence lawyer by the Crown prosecutor.

Arrested shortly after starting the fire in the Boulevard de la Gare business, the Hudson resident faces two charges: causing damage by fire to property knowing that individuals were in the business, and causing damage by fire.

A week after the incident, Walmart Canada confirmed that no reopening date has yet been set. "The store is currently closed for cleaning and repairs following an arson attack.  The branch will reopen as soon as possible while we work with the authorities to ensure it is safe and up to the standards our customers expect."
