Ex-boxer David Hilton found guilty on three counts
Former boxer David Hilton was formally found guilty of assault, breach of probation and disturbing the peace on Tuesday, February 27 at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse.
The events with which Mr. Hilton is charged date back to February 10, 2024, at a restaurant in Sainte-Martine. When drunk, the accused was allegedly aggressive towards a restaurant waiter who refused to serve him alcohol. When the police arrived, David Hilton allegedly made death threats to a police officer.
Judge Joey Dubois sentenced the ex-boxer, who had been in custody for 35 days, to a total of 36 days' detention and 18 months' probation, during which he will have to comply with various conditions, including a ban on appearing at the Reggiano restaurant, keeping good behavior and the peace, and informing his probation officer of any changes.
"I don't want to make excuses, but I lost my father recently and my mother isn't doing well either. It's all affecting me, Judge," the accused said simply, adding that he had been sober for the past 10 months.
