Psychiatrist Myriam Leblanc of the Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel has assessed that Fabio Puglisi, 44, accused of the tragedy in Vaudreuil-Dorion on February 15, is unfit to stand trial. This was confirmed at the suspect's second appearance at the Valleyfield courthouse on Thursday, February 22.

Defense lawyer Me. Alexandre Dubé, informed Judge Bertrand St-Arnaud of the conclusions of Dr. Leblanc's report. In her assessment, Dr. Leblanc recommended that the accused be returned to the Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel for 30 days to receive health care (medication) to stabilize his mental state.

Fabio Publisi will then return to Judge St-Arnaud on March 25 for further proceedings. A second request for an assessment of his ability to stand trial could be made at that time.

The man known to police was formally charged with the murders of Elisabetta Caucci-Puglisi, 68, and Manon Blanchard, 53. He has also been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault of an undisclosed third person.

Puglisi is also charged with assault in another case, which is scheduled to return to court on the same date.
