The chief magistrate issued this official statement:

Sad events occurred today in a building on rue Émile-Bouchard. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims of this tragedy, but also with the citizens who live in this building. Such a tragedy reminds us that we are not immune to such human tragedies, even if we live in a community where we preach tolerance and mutual aid.

All the best,

Mayor Guy Pilon

The events that took place at 11:50 a.m. at 1600 rue Émile-Bouchard have claimed two victims. A 70-year-old woman is still fighting for her life following a stabbing. The suspect, a 44-year-old man, was known to police and reportedly suffered from mental health problems. He was apprehended at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
