LATEST: Violent attack in Vaudreuil-Dorion

According to the latest report from the Sûreté du Québec, at around 11:50 a.m., police officers from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Est MRC were called to the scene of an armed stabbing attack on several victims.

On arrival, three people were found with serious injuries. Two women were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 70-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries in critical condition. Her life is feared. Earlier on Thursday, CETAM confirmed to Neomedia that one of its adapted care teams was accompanying the woman as she was transported by ambulance.

The suspect, a 44-year-old man, was arrested by police at the scene. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and will be interviewed by investigators. A neighbor of the victims confirmed to Néomédia that the suspect in the assault had been arrested last summer by Sûreté du Québec officers and was said to have significant mental health problems.

Investigators from the Service des enquêtes sur les crimes contre la personne, accompanied by the Service d'identité judiciaire, were on site to analyze the scene, meet witnesses and gather as much information as possible about the circumstances surrounding this event.

The violent attack occurred on the 6th floor of one of the buildings in the Vela housing complex.
