Saint-Lazare tax bill to increase by 4.45% in 2024
In a spirit of prudence and rigor, the Ville de Saint-Lazare Council adopted the 2024 budget at a special meeting held on December 19. Despite the repeated backlash from inflation and rising interest rates that marked 2023, Ville de Saint-Lazare has managed to limit the tax bill increase to 4.45% for an average-value single-family home.

The budget, which totals $43.1 million, sets a course for responsible and rigorous management of public funds. Elected officials and municipal department heads have opted for responsible management of finances and services in a challenging economic climate for all.
Despite the 5% consumer price index in September 2023 and the precarious economic situation, Ville de Saint-Lazare has managed to minimize its property tax rate for 2024 to 3.78%, from 0.6034 to 0.6262.
It should be noted that the Town's incompressible expenses increased by 6.62%, representing 85% of the Town's budget. These expenses include significant increases in the share of the Regional County Municipality (MRC) 18.71%, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) 17.53%, the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) 4.00%, and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) 6.55%.
Even so, this property tax increase represents $13 per month for an average single-family home valued at $467,600, which the municipal council considers reasonable in the circumstances.
Here are the details for an average home valued at $467,600 in 2024:
- Tax rate (residual general property tax): $0.6262 per $100 of assessment;
- Water (fixed/household): $275;
- Residual materials (fixed/household): $180;
- Wastewater treatment: $165;
- Drinking water plant upgrades (fixed/housing): $50;
- La Pinière expansion (.0015$/100): $7.01;
- Reconstruction of chemin Saint-Élisabeth (.0021$/100): $9.82;
- Construction of municipal workshops (.0055$/100): $25.72:

- Extension of bicycle network (.0028$/100): $13.09;
- Construction of new fire station (.0030$/100): $14.03.
Against this backdrop, the Town is staying the course on some of its flagship initiatives, notably its projects to protect the environment and wetlands, its dynamic community life, and the development of eco-responsible urban planning projects that are sensitive to the realities of households and businesses.
