For owners of homes valued at $750,000, the increase will be $369 for 2024. This was announced at a special meeting held on December 14. The meeting can be replayed on the Town's Facebook page.
Since 2014, Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot residents have had to cope with average tax increases of 3.5% annually.
For fiscal 2024, the operating budget amounts to $22,997,000, 7.7% more than in 2023. "There are few commercial and industrial zones on our territory. In 2024, more than three-quarters of our revenues, or 81%, will come from property taxes," explained Guillaume Laforest, General Manager of the City of NDIP.
He added that several efforts had also been made by the municipal administration to reduce expenses as much as possible for the year 2024. "Just over a quarter of our expenses, 27%, are incompressible and represent salaries. If we compare ourselves with surrounding towns, it's not much.Co-payments to the MRC, CMM and ARTM represent 31% of our expenses. Compared with 2023, they will cost us $240,000 more in 2024."
For services, the main rate increase is for the collection, transportation and disposal of residual materials, i.e., garbage cans, up $14 on 2023."We have a new supplier. A single tax of $59 will be applied to all tax bills in 2024, with some exceptions, in connection with the arrival of the new brown bin. Residences that have already paid in the past for a large bin will not pay it a second time," explained Mr. Laforest.
For her part, Mayor Danie Deschênes invited people to rethink their garbage collection habits."A survey will be sent to citizens with the tax bill in 2024, and I invite everyone to fill it out and take part in this collective reflection. Over the past few years, garbage collection costs have soared, and this is only the beginning. We want to know citizens' opinions on the subject, and what direction to take in the future.Should we switch to three-weekly or monthly collection, as in some Eastern Townships? We want to hear what you have to say on the subject", she appealed to the public.
