On Monday, December 11, Hudson's elected officials adopted the operating budget for 2024. The budget totals $16,947,000, representing an overall increase of $616,400 or 3.77% over 2023. The property tax rate will rise by 3.80%.

This rise is attributable to increases in salaries and fringe benefits, snow removal, the Sûreté du Québec contribution, other contributions (MRC, CMM, ARTM) and debt management, with cost increases of $300,000, $200,000, $100,000, $70,000 and $500,000 respectively.

On the other hand, the increase in the 2024 operating budget is mitigated by anticipated reductions totalling $130,000 for legal services, software, licenses, electricity and abrasive costs.

Anticipated revenues in 2024 will be in the order of $16,947,000, the majority of which will come from the following budget items: general property taxes ($9,966,614), service taxes such as water, sewer and residual materials ($2,089,800), transfer duties ($1,650,000), long-term debt ($1,377,406), interest ($767,000) and several others.

For the same year, expenses will be numerous:

- Salaries ($5,149,428);

- Public safety ($2,649,800);

- Transportation ($2,429,200);

- Capital, interest and appropriation: ($2,293,800);

- Waste: ($1,066,100);

- General administration: ($1,052,872);

- Water treatment: ($854,900):

- Culture and recreation: ($717,000);

- Planning and development: ($659,500);

- Health and well-being: $74,400;

A 3.80% increase in municipal taxes

Not surprisingly, homeowners on Hudson territory will have to deal with an increase in their municipal taxes for the year 2024. For a single residence, this will amount to 3.80%, or $0.6420 per $100 of assessment. In 2023, the same tax rate was $0.6185 for a residence.

For 2024, for a non-residential building, the tax will increase by 3.79%, or $0.6539 per $100 of assessment. For serviced vacant lots, owners will have to pay an additional 3.80% in taxes, or $0.8174 per $100 of assessment.

Farm buildings will also see their contribution increase by 3.80%, with a rate of $0.6420 per $100 of assessment.

Rates for water, sewer, garbage, recycling and residential composting will not increase in 2024.
