The Municipality of Saint-Polycarpe has announced a 2.21% property tax increase for 2024. A by-law to this effect was adopted on December 11, when the council presented and adopted its 2024 budget and its three-year capital expenditure program for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Mayor Jean-Yves Poirier praised the work of the municipal administration and council members in drawing up the new budget. "I think it's a wise budget, one that takes into account the current context by having a reasonable increase that's below inflation. Hats off to the hard-working administration and the Board. We're pleased with the budget we've presented," he said.

Thus, for a residence assessed at $322,330, which is now the average residential assessment in Saint-Polycarpe, we're talking about an increase of $65.71 in the tax bill, or $0.5923 per $100 of assessment.

In the agricultural sector, the increase is $209.49, or 2.90% ($0.5923), for an average assessment of $1,057,707.

For non-residential properties, the tax rate has been set at $0.8422 per $100 of assessment. For buildings with six or more dwellings, the rate is $0.6306.

These increases are attributable, among other things, to higher interest rates, but also to higher tax rates for services and the various assessments payable by the Municipality.

For 2024, the sewer tax will rise from $250 to $320, an increase of 28%. For organic matter and garbage collection, Saint-Polycarpe residents can expect to pay $120 and $175 respectively. Only the collection of recyclable materials has been revised downward, from $84 to $81. The tax rate for water has also been reduced by 40%.

Finally, among the projects included in the three-year capital expenditure program for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026, we highlight the repair of several roads, the renovation of the arena and the construction of outdoor skating rinks and a fire station.

Full details of the budget are available on the municipal website.
