Pierre Séguin, mayor of L'Île-Perrot, declared: "This small variation of 2.86% is a success for the Town, especially in the context of inflation. At the Town, sound management of our finances remains a priority. I am proud to say that our efforts have led us to a balanced budget, which in no way compromises the quality of our services, but rather enhances them."

Fees for waste management have had to be increased, as the rates for contracts signed this year are higher than in previous years. Other taxes, such as those for the road reserve, drinking water and wastewater, remain unchanged for the residential sector.

A balanced budget despite increased assessments

The Town's operating budget will rise from $20,881,479 in 2023 to $22,140,631 in 2024. This year, the increase in mandatory co-payments from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM), the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) and the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges has had a significant impact on budget planning.

For 2024, the Sûreté du Québec's share will rise from $1,537,607 to $1,669,739, representing 8.59% of the city's budget. The share for the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) will be $243,335, or 17.05% of the budget.

For the ARTM, the Town estimates a share of $561,146, and for the MRC, the amount to be disbursed will be $999,763.

According to the municipal administration, despite the significant increase in the various co-payments, the budget presented and adopted is balanced and does not include any appropriation from the surplus.

Moreover, an additional effort has been made to diversify sources of revenue, particularly grants. In return, the Town benefited this year from a significant increase in the transfer of the QST point from the government, from $181,430 to $590,134.

Major projects on Île-Perrot

The Town of L'Île-Perrot is continuing to carry out major projects, such as bringing the wastewater treatment plant up to standard, with an investment of $4.9 million planned for 2024.

The upgrade of the storm sewer system in the Brucy sector, the renovation of the library, the replacement of 45 L brown bins with 240 L bins, the design of plans and specifications for the new fire station and the maintenance of roads, streets and sidewalks are also in the Town's plans for the coming years.

According to the city's three-year capital expenditure program, just over $12.3 million will be invested in these projects by 2024.

Finally, the municipal administration plans to revise and implement various policies. The selected projects are in line with the Town's 2023-2028 strategic plan to create an attractive, sustainable and efficient living environment on Île-Perrot.

Full details and explanatory documents on the budget are available on the Town's website under the Budget tab.
