The Town of Vaudreuil-Dorion has recently completed its new master plan for outdoor signage. Produced in conjunction with a signage design firm, this reference document provides precise guidelines on how to identify municipal infrastructures in a coherent and harmonized way.

The master plan is part of a program to reposition and improve the city's signage assets. It will highlight places of interest (tourist, cultural, commercial zones, industrial parks, institutional zones, public parking lots, parks and green spaces, etc.) and facilitate travel thanks to clear, uniform signage for the various types of clientele (citizens, local residents, tourists, visitors, potential investors) passing through the territory. It includes the identification of buildings, entrances, streets, parks and neighbourhoods directional and regulatory signs. The various elements will be installed progressively over several years.

"Currently, signage in the city is deficient. Several parks and public places are not identified, and there are no signs to clearly define the territory at the entrances to the city. An analysis of existing signage carried out last year revealed significant gaps in consistency, but also a lack of effectiveness in directional signs," explains Chantal St-Laurent, Head of the Urban Planning Division at the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Lotbinière's new fire station, soon to be operational, is identified in accordance with this exterior signage plan. This is the first project to result from this plan. "With the current budgetary challenges, exterior signage will be implemented progressively, giving priority to new buildings, unidentified locations and infrastructures, and damaged elements in need of replacement," says Mayor Guy Pilon.

The exterior signage plan has been developed to incorporate the new City of Vaudreuil-Dorion logo. It will make it possible to standardize signage and public information, and facilitate access to services for the greater benefit of citizens, while at the same time creating a sense of belonging through a brand image.
