The distribution of 240-litre brown bins will begin this Monday, September 4, in the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion. Residents of all municipal districts will receive them by September 29.

The new large-format bins are fitted with chips and will be delivered to addresses that currently have a small bin (45L) as part of the smart collection and incentive pricing project. The aim of this initiative is to encourage people to sort materials more efficiently, thereby generating less waste, and to reward those who adopt good practices. It includes waste and organic matter collections.

By assigning each bin to an address using an RFID transponder (electronic chip), the trucks equipped with a reading system will be able to record which containers are lifted at each collection and transmit the data to the city. This will enable the city to manage its container inventory more efficiently and track collections more effectively. It will be able to observe container liftings in real time and react more quickly to unforeseen events in the field, with the aim of improving the service for responding to citizen complaints and resolving problem situations.

Eventually, smart collection will also change the way municipal waste management costs are passed on to citizens in their tax bills. So it's not a question of creating a new tariff, but of changing the way costs are distributed across the population. Instead of dividing costs equally between all households, it will be possible to bill a household according to its actual use of the service. The new pricing system, scheduled for 2026, will take into account users' actual use of the collection service, i.e. the number of times in the year a bin is lifted during collection, encouraging sorting and waste reduction.

What to do with your little brown bin?You can keep it for other uses, such as storing gardening equipment, de-icing salt or pet food.

Only large bins will be collected. We strongly recommend that you write your address on your bin in the space provided.

Those wishing to dispose of their small bins will be informed shortly of the procedure to follow.
