Around 5:30 this morning, the Sûreté du Québec confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man from Coteau-du-Lac. According to our information, a dispute between neighbors degenerated into arson.

"Fire scene technicians were dispatched to the scene to try to shed light on the circumstances and causes of the blaze. A 50-year-old man has been apprehended in the case," confirms police spokeswoman Ève Brochu-Joubert.

The incident occurred at 52 rue Delisle Nord, just before 5:30 this morning. The blaze started outside a disused greenhouse attached to a structure where the victim was staying. The site is located on land that presumably belongs to the man who was arrested. He lived in a house on the same plot.

Smoke and flames emanating from the empty greenhouse were spotted by the tenant, before he contacted the authorities. When firefighters from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Coteau-du-Lac and Saint-Polycarpe arrived on the scene, the tenant said the fire had been started by his landlord, who was also his neighbor. The latter was met by Sûreté du Québec officers, before being handcuffed.

Quickly brought under control, the fire did little damage. According to the SQ, damage was limited to one wall of the residence.
