A spectacular collision occurred shortly before 6:30 this morning on the ramp to Autoroute 30 from Autoroute 20 east, in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The driver of a heavy truck carrying parcels and mail fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a guardrail and then into a traffic arch owned by NA30.

Images filmed at the scene by Néomédia clearly show the damage resulting from the accident, which will force the closure of this sector for the next few hours.

Due to the curiosity, a major traffic jam is underway on Highway 20 in the nearby area.

Lieutenant Kelsey Tibbo of the Coteau-du-Lac/Les Coteaux fire department was the first to arrive on the scene following the impact. The accident occurred in front of her while she was driving.

She told Neomedia that the accident caused quite a stir. Fearless and determined, the young woman managed to slip into the driver's cab to administer first aid. The driver was semi-conscious, and Ms. Tibbo dressed his numerous wounds.

Vaudreuil-Dorion firefighters, paramedics and the Sûreté du Québec were also on the scene to assist the victim. NA30 representatives were also on the scene to coordinate the closure of the area.

Firefighters had to use jaws of life to extricate the driver from the carcass of the truck. The behemoth was reduced to a heap of scrap metal in the collision.

Paramedics then took charge of the man, who was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Motorists who need to travel in the area can consult Québec511 to plan their trips.
