Father Gérald Sareault, retired priest of the Saint-Lazare church, has passed away. That's what we learned on Tuesday.

Retired since 2019, he led the Saint-Lazare Catholic Church for 35 years. As a clergyman, he married and baptized families spanning three generations. Despite his retirement, he remained active in his community.

Saint-Lazare's mayor, Geneviève Lachance, paid tribute to him and his commitment to the people of Saint-Lazare.

Here is Ms. Lachance's message.

It was with deep sadness that we learned today of the passing of Father Gérald Sareault, a remarkable person who left an indelible mark on the Saint-Lazare community. For those who had the privilege of knowing him, he was not only a devoted parish priest at the Saint-Lazare catholic church for an astounding 35 years, from 1984 to 2019, but also a tireless community advocate who remained active even in his retirement.

Father Sareault's unwavering commitment to his congregation and the community he served was truly inspiring. Throughout his tenure, he selflessly guided and comforted countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Although he officially retired in 2019, Father Sareault's involvement and care for the community never waned. He continued to lend his support, wisdom, and spiritual guidance.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, and may they find strength and comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
