On Saturday July 8, on Chemin du Fleuve, near Rue Marlène, the City of Coteau-du-Lac's Road Safety and Traffic Committee carried out its first field intervention as part of its speed awareness campaign. And many drivers were pleasantly surprised.

For committee members, raising awareness means recognizing and encouraging good practice. The committee therefore decided to reward good drivers.

With the help of a Sûreté du Québec officer from the Saint-Clet station, Constable Stéphane Quintal, the group intercepted motorists who were driving within the speed limit.

Certificate of good conduct and tickets to a show

Despite a few stunned reactions during the interception, smiles soon appeared as drivers received a statement of good conduct, accompanied by a pair of tickets for Mario Jean's upcoming show at Pavillon Wilson.

For the committee, it's a way of saying thank you to motorists who drive safely. A number of people intercepted said they were pleased with the intervention or testified to the importance of reducing speed in residential neighborhoods.

This intervention will not be unique on the territory. The Traffic and Road Safety Committee aims to repeat the operation a few times over the summer. The aim is always the same: to reward road users who respect speed limits.

About the Traffic and Road Safety Committee

The Traffic and Road Safety Committee was created in 2021 to better respond to citizens' concerns. In addition to studying requests and complaints submitted by Coteaulacois, the committee recommends interventions to make streets safer for all users.

The committee is made up of municipal councillors Christine Arsenault and David-Lee Amos, public works and engineering coordinator Steve St-Onge, Sûreté du Québec police officer Mathieu Gilbert, and citizen representatives Julie Masson and David Vallée.
