Sports fans are invited to the Cégep de Valleyfield soccer field on August 6 for the Au Coeur du Sport event.

Organized by Sébastien Behnan, medical imaging technologist at Hôpital du Suroît, the Au Coeur du Sport event aims to be the largest signing session ever held in the region.

Funds raised during the day will be donated to the hospital's Foundation, with the aim of improving health care at the facility.

Involved with the Suroît Hospital Foundation for many years, Sébastien Behnan wanted to organize a family event featuring sports stars, for the enjoyment of as many people as possible.

"In the past, I organized the Montreal Canadiens Alumni game, to benefit the Suroît Hospital Foundation. Held at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield arena, the event was a huge success, and I'm delighted to repeat my involvement with the Au Cœur du Sport event on August 6," says organizer Sébastien Behnan.

Sports stars come together

With over ten active or retired athletes in attendance, Au Coeur du Sport is a unique opportunity for citizens to come and meet in person those who have more than once thrilled the hearts of sports fans in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and across Quebec.

In the world of soccer, the Honourable Larry Smith is a household name. A former player and president of the Montreal Alouettes, he will be joined by Patrick Lavoie, Paul Lambert and Alexandre Chevrier, who also played for the team.

The presence of Maxime Latour, Grey Cup champion with the Toronto Argonauts and Jean-Philippe Bolduc, former player with the Ottawa Red Blacks, will complete the line-up for soccer fans.

The world of field hockey will also be well represented, with former Montreal Canadiens players Francis Bouillon and Benoit Brunet coming to Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, and the presence of Pierre Plante, former player with the Quebec Nordiques and the St. Louis Blues, allowing nostalgic fans to meet an idol from another era.

Finally, Francis Lafrenière, former IBF international boxing champion and NABO middleweight, will also be on hand for the Au Cœur du Sport event, to be held on the Cégep de Valleyfield soccer field.

Activities for the whole family

In addition to the signing session and photo opportunities with the athletes, the soccer field will be animated by sports stations organized by the Académie du Noir et Or. If you're dreaming of trying your hand at flag soccer, soccer or even spikeball, here's your chance!

Coaches and volunteers will also be on hand to help you discover these sports in complete safety.

For the little ones, there will also be inflatable games and face painting.

Tickets for the Au Coeur du Sport event are now on sale on the Fondation de l'Hôpital du Suroît website at fondationhds.ca.

It will also be possible to buy tickets directly on site, on August 6 at 1 p.m.

Finally, note that the event will be held in the Cégep de Valleyfield gymnasium in case of rain.
