In the schoolyard of Pavillon Lionel-Groulx
A new recreation area at Cité-des-Jeunes high school
June 21 marked the inauguration of a portion of the schoolyard at Pavillon Lionel-Groulx on the campus of École secondaire de la Cité-des-Jeunes in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
The project was set up in collaboration with the school team and required an investment of over $35,000 from the Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes.
The Je construis mon avenir project is the result of two years' work. Through the implementation of an entrepreneurial project, students in the Pré-DEP program were accompanied by their teachers, Caroline Tessier and Dino Stéa. They saw through the entire project management cycle, getting involved at various stages. They put into practice specific skills to be developed for their career path.
"This project is based on a desire to meet a need among students to have a common outdoor space in order to create a dynamic environment. What could be more stimulating for them than the opportunity to learn in a different way?" says Mr. Lorange, assistant principal of Secondary 3 at Cité-des-Jeunes.
The project was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes and the Ministère de l'Éducation, as well as the collaboration and expertise of various entrepreneurs and partners in the region. " We're very proud of the work done by the Lesage excavation team, most of whom worked on the project are former Cité students", points out Mr. Caron, residential sector manager at Lesage excavation.
The Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes promotes the academic success and personal development of students through various forms of financial support. This assistance takes the form of individualized student support (for learning difficulties, extracurricular participation, perseverance bursaries) and support for the school's dynamism, such as this one the school's dynamism, such as this development project. "This financial support benefits all Cité-des-Jeunes staff, since it gives students access to the tools they need to succeed and a stimulating environment in which to grow," explains Ms. Moreau, Director of the Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes.
For the school year just ending, the Foundation has invested over $85,000 and reached 120 students through its awards, scholarships and individualized support. This represents an increase of over 33% on last year. "A sustained growth of which the Foundation team is very proud, and which would not be possible without the collaboration of the school management," says Ms. Moreau.
