The old Walmart in Pincourt will soon be demolished
The old Walmart in Pincourt will soon be demolished to make way for a new multi-family building. This is what a demolition notice posted near the door of the old business on October 14 indicates.
"About two weeks ago, the City Council approved the demolition of the building. The law states that we must wait 30 days before we can proceed with the demolition," said Pincourt Mayor Claude Comeau.
For her part, Charlotte Gagné, a lawyer and clerk who also acts as Director of Legal Services, Clerk's Office and Communications for the Town of Pincourt, mentions by e-mail that "the timeline that was communicated for the demolition of the Walmart is around February 2023. No other demolition applications have been filed with the City regarding the shopping center as of today," she wrote.
According to details obtained from the Town of Pincourt, the new multi-family construction project will have 103 housing units. It will be separate from the shopping center, but the zoning by-law, as currently stated for this zone, does not allow the construction of a 2nd building on the same lot as an already built building, such as the Walmart. Therefore, a demolition was required in order to allow another project.
The main use in the C3-01 zone is commercial, but multi-family residential uses are also permitted, we add. In the same perspective, it is for this reason that the apartment project next to the pharmacy on Cardinal-Léger could see the light of day.
