After colliding with a low concrete wall on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, for reasons as yet unknown, a semi-trailer fell into the waters of the Lake of Two Mountains.

The incident took place on Highway 40 westbound, in the Senneville sector, around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Two fishermen in a rowboat quickly intervened to remove the truck driver from his cabin. He did not appear to be injured. As a precautionary measure, however, he was taken to hospital.

Every third lane is currently closed to traffic and will remain so for at least an hour or two, while Ministry of Transport engineers confirm that the concrete wall is safe. Traffic is heavy in both directions.

Sûreté du Québec spokesman Gino Paré points out that the truck does not contain any hazardous materials.
